April Devotion

Luke 24:1-12 – “He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ “Then they remembered his words.”

On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you score your memory?

Is it easy for you to remember certain items and not others? One thing I have been fortunate in doing is remembering a person’s name. I can meet an individual once, maybe twice, and then I can tell you their name. There are some who can remember anything, and at the same time there are those who do not remember one thing even though they may have heard it a dozen times.

Psalm 105:2 – Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wonderful works.

There is this unique mystery about music and the way it impacts both musician and listener. Music is able to strike deep within us and break down walls and barriers that divide individuals as well as break down the walls that we can develop inside of our selves.

About 15 years ago, my family had the opportunity to travel to Slovenia where our exchange student was from. His family, because of our taking care of their son for nearly eight months, wanted to treat us for all that we had done for him. Our exchange student’s parents also knew about the music ability of our than 12 year old son and his God given talent to play the piano and pipe organ.

Psalm 51:10 – Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

On a list of 1 to 10 of favorite things for me to do, grocery shopping gets a 15. I don’t like the crowds, people stopping in the middle of an aisle clueless of everyone around them, and long checkout lines.

But one thing I am amused in watching, if you can call it that, is people thunking melons. You see all kinds as they hold a melon, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, etc., up to their ear and tap it, or thunk it, with their finger to hear what it sounds like. (On a side note: I have no clue what one is supposed to hear because I hear absolutely nothing.)

Monthly Devotional

“And I am with you always, till the close of the age.” Matthew 28:20

I used to have a book, and maybe I do in some box at home, that was titled, “Great Truths About Life that Little Children have Learned.” Here are some of the “truths” that these children listed:

Never ask your three year old brother to hold a tomato or an egg;
You cannot trust dogs to watch your lunch for you;
School lunches stick well on ceilings;
You cannot hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk;
Never wear polka dot underwear under white shorts.
Maybe we have heard similar comments from children we know, but there is one great “truth” that remains forever for any one of any age: God is with us . . . and he is with us ALWAYS.
